Text invoice with a late fee reminder
A late-fee reminder texts the original invoice and mentions a fee only when that fee was already agreed. InvoiceTXT does not add the fee for you.
Remind first. Add a fee only if the terms already allow it
Late fees cause more disputes than late invoices, because they appear to be invented after the fact. Send a reminder that points at the original link, restates the amount and the original due terms, and does not smuggle in a new number. If a late fee was written into the proposal or the terms the client already accepted, add it as its own line on a new invoice and say that this message is the fee, not the original work. Do not edit a link the client has already opened and hope they will not notice. InvoiceTXT has no setting that waits 14 days and then increases the total. This is not legal advice. Whether you may charge a fee depends on what you agreed and on the rules where you and the client are. If you are unsure, ask before you add the line.
Resend the original link before you talk about a fee
Many late payments are a missed message, not a refusal.
Quote the amount that is already on the invoice
A reminder that changes the number is a new bill.
Put an agreed fee on a fresh invoice
Name it “agreed late fee” and refer to the term they signed.
Leave the original link alone
Silent edits are how a fair fee becomes a complaint.
What to put on this invoice
- The original total
- The due terms you actually set
- A fee line only after it was agreed
- A separate message for the fee, so the two amounts are not confused
Questions about this job
Can I turn on automatic late fees?
No. Nothing in the product increases a total on a timer.
What if the contract says 2 percent a month?
Calculate it yourself, show the percentage and the base, and put that figure on its own line. This page will not calculate it for you and is not telling you that the clause is enforceable.
Should the reminder sound angry?
No. State the date, the amount and the link. A threat is not a document.
A reminder collects the invoice you already sent. A fee is a new line, and only when the client agreed to it before the work was late.
