Awkward moments

Create an invoice after the customer leaves

If they left before you finished the paperwork, text the invoice the same day. Do not wait until they have forgotten the walkthrough.

Same day still counts

Customers leave. School runs, another meeting, a landlord who only unlocked the door. You can still invoice well if you do it the same day and you write down what they saw. Mention the walkthrough in the text so the bill is connected to a moment they remember. If a price changed after they left, say that in the first sentence. A changed total with no explanation looks like a different job.

Message you can send

You had left before I totalled this. Three rooms and the paint, due in 14 days: https://invoicetxt.com/i/your-link

01

Write the lines before you pack up

Even if you send ten minutes later, capture the rooms or the parts while you can see them.

02

Say they had already gone

It explains why you did not hand it over in person. It is not an apology for billing.

03

Repeat any price you agreed verbally

If the paint was extra and they said yes on the way out, the text should say they said yes.

04

Send before the end of the day

Tomorrow the job feels theoretical to both of you.

What to put on this invoice

  • What you finished after they left
  • Prices you already agreed
  • A same-day timestamp, by simply sending it today
  • The due date

Questions about this job

What if I discover extra work after they go?

Do not add it silently. Text the question first, then invoice what they approve.

Should I knock again?

If they are next door, yes. If they have gone to work, the text is the right tool.

Can I invoice the next morning?

You can, and you should say “from yesterday’s visit” so it does not feel late.

Same-day is the standard. A next-morning text can still work if the first line reminds them which visit.
