Follow up an unpaid invoice by text

Reply in the original thread, after the due date, with the same link. Do not create a second invoice to get their attention.

One thread, one invoice, one nudge

A follow-up is not a new sale. The customer should recognise the thread, the amount and the link. Wait until the due date has passed unless they asked you to remind them. The message can be two lines. If they opened the invoice and did not pay, ask for the payment or the objection. If they never opened it, say the link again. Those are different problems and the status tells you which. Stop after two nudges and call, or stop entirely. A daily chase burns the relationship and does not create money that is not there.

Message you can send

Quick nudge — the strategy invoice from the 14th is still open. Same link, same total: https://invoicetxt.com/i/your-link

01

Use the original thread

A new number looks like a different demand.

02

Repeat the same link

A new invoice for the same work looks like a double charge.

03

Say the date of the original

“From the 14th” anchors it.

04

Stop after two

Then phone, or write it off, or send a final note. Do not become a notification.

What to put on this invoice

  • The original thread
  • The same link
  • A due date that has passed
  • Two nudges, then a decision

Questions about this job

What if they say they paid?

Check, then mark it paid. Apologise if you chased a paid bill. Update the status so you do not do it again.

What if they dispute a line?

Answer that line. Do not resend the total as your only reply.

Can I add a late fee now?

Only if the original invoice or the quote already said so. A new punishment in the nudge is a new argument.

The follow-up should be boring. Boring gets paid. Creative follow-ups get replies you do not want.
