Invoice a client while still on site

Build the invoice before you step off the property, and ask them to open it while you can still answer a question.

Use the fact that you are still in the building

On site, a question is a sentence. Off site, a question is a two-day pause. Create the invoice in the last room you finished, text it, and stay while it loads. If they challenge the woodwork, you can look at the woodwork. If they pay, mark it paid before you leave. If the terms are 14 days, say that out loud so the text is not the first time they hear it. The only reason to wait is a price you have not agreed. Agree it, or leave the line off. Do not invoice a guess and “fix it later”.

Message you can send

I’m still here if a line looks wrong. Three rooms, paint and the woodwork, due in 14 days: https://invoicetxt.com/i/your-link

01

Finish the list before the goodbye

The goodbye is when you send, not when you start thinking.

02

Ask them to open the link

A loading problem is obvious only if you are there.

03

Answer one question, then stop talking

A long apology makes a correct bill sound optional.

04

Mark paid if money changed hands

Do not drive away with an open invoice and a pocket of cash.

What to put on this invoice

  • Every line you intend to charge
  • A customer who can still look at the work
  • The due date said out loud
  • The link opened once before you go

Questions about this job

What if they are on a call?

Text it and tell them it is in the thread. You do not have to hover. You do have to send it before you leave.

What if the site contact is not the payer?

Send it to the payer if you have their number. Tell the site contact you have done so.

Should I discount to get a nod on site?

No. On site is for clarity, not for a new negotiation you did not plan.

Leave the property with the invoice already in their phone. That is the whole workflow.
