How to invoice international clients by text

You can text an invoice to a client in another country. The currency on a saved invoice is a label. InvoiceTXT does not convert the money.

Say the currency in the message, and do not invent a conversion

International clients can open a link from a text the same way a local client can. What changes is the currency, the tax and sometimes the document they are allowed to pay from. On this public example the amounts render with a dollar sign because the demo formats numbers that way. When you save an invoice through the API you can set a three-letter currency such as EUR or GBP. That code is a label beside the total. It does not look up an exchange rate and it does not move money between countries. Agree the currency in the message so a 600 line is not read as 600 dollars. If their country requires a tax invoice with a registration number, put that number in the text and on your PDF workflow. This page cannot tell you which number. Their bank, not InvoiceTXT, receives the transfer.

Message you can send

Atelier Nord: art direction for this round is 600 EUR, due in 21 days. The invoice link is in English and shows the lines: https://invoicetxt.com/i/your-link

01

Agree the currency in writing before you send

A label on the invoice cannot fix a misunderstanding about dollars versus euros.

02

Put the code in the SMS

The demo’s dollar sign is a formatter. Your message should name EUR, GBP or whatever you agreed.

03

Use the API when the label matters

currency on POST /v1/invoices is three letters. The public typing demo does not set it.

04

Keep tax out of the guesswork

If you must charge VAT or GST, set tax_rate on the saved invoice and get the rate from your own rules.

What to put on this invoice

  • The client’s name and country context in the message
  • The amount and the currency code
  • Due days that match the contract
  • Your business identity, in the text, for a payer who has never met you

Questions about this job

Will the customer be charged in their local currency?

Only if you priced it that way and their bank handles the transfer. InvoiceTXT does not convert or collect.

Can I send the text from my usual number?

Yes. International delivery of the SMS depends on your phone or your SMS provider, not on this invoice page.

Do I need their tax number?

If your rules or theirs say the invoice must show it, put it in the message. There is no tax-id field you can ignore and still be compliant.

Text the invoice in the currency you agreed. Say that currency in words. Leave the conversion to the banks.
